Liverpool’s pursuit of Florian Wirtz is heating up, with the club now in advanced talks with Bayer Leverkusen over a transfer package worth up to £114 million — a fee that would shatter the Reds’ current transfer record.

Following two previous bids, Liverpool tabled a third formal offer last week: £100m guaranteed plus £14m in performance-based add-ons. If completed, the deal will eclipse the £75m paid for Virgil van Dijk in 2018.

Negotiations are now centred on the structure of the deal — including how realistic the bonus targets are. Leverkusen initially valued the 22-year-old German international at £126m, but the gap is narrowing.

Anfield Calling: Wirtz Wants the Reds

Wirtz has reportedly made it clear that Liverpool is his preferred destination, despite significant interest from Manchester City and Bayern Munich.

The creative midfielder has been a sensation for Leverkusen since making his debut at just 17. He’s since racked up 57 goals in 197 appearances, playing a key role in Leverkusen’s historic 2024 Bundesliga title win.

On the international stage, Wirtz has also impressed — scoring 7 goals in 31 caps for Germany since debuting in 2021.

Joining Football’s £100m Club

If the move goes through, Wirtz would become the 10th player in football history to command a £100m+ transfer fee.

🔹 British record: Enzo Fernandez to Chelsea – £107m
🔹 Potential record: Moises Caicedo to Chelsea – £100m + £15m add-ons
🔹 World record: Neymar to PSG – £200m

Wirtz’s signing would also mark Liverpool’s second deal with Leverkusen this summer, following the £34m acquisition of full-back Jeremie Frimpong.

With the deal on the verge of completion, Liverpool fans may soon see one of Europe’s brightest playmakers lighting up Anfield in red.
