Chelsea have had a £42m+ bid rejected for Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, despite the player reportedly being keen on a move to Stamford Bridge.
Dortmund Hold Firm
The 20-year-old England U21 international, who once spent time in Chelsea’s youth system, is currently not favoured by new Dortmund boss Niko Kovac, yet BVB remain reluctant to let him go cheaply.
Gittens has a seven-year deal on the table at Dortmund, but with Chelsea pushing to finalise signings ahead of the Club World Cup, the rejection leaves his potential transfer in limbo.
Clock Ticking for Club World Cup Deadline
The first registration deadline for the Club World Cup is Tuesday night, meaning Chelsea are running out of time if they want Gittens involved in the tournament.
Although the Blues haven’t ruled out another approach after the deadline, they’re also actively exploring alternatives:
- Alejandro Garnacho (Man United)
- Mohammed Kudus (West Ham)

Maignan Move Abandoned
Meanwhile, Chelsea have walked away from talks over AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan, citing a disagreement in valuation. Milan wanted £25m, but Chelsea rated the soon-to-be 30-year-old at about half that.
Gittens’ Rise So Far
- Former Manchester City academy product
- Joined Dortmund in 2020
- 8 goals in 32 Bundesliga games last season
- Made Bundesliga debut at age 18
- Versatile, pacey, and seen as a long-term solution for Chelsea’s flanks
Dortmund Eye the Next English Star
In the meantime, Dortmund continue their English talent pipeline, recently signing Jobe Bellingham from Sunderland — brother of England star Jude.
