Tottenham Hotspur are edging closer to appointing Thomas Frank as their new head coach, with confirmation expected within the next 48 hours, sources have told BBC Sport.
Talks between Spurs and Brentford are said to be progressing positively, with all parties keen to finalise the agreement swiftly.
Frank Set to Replace Postecoglou
Frank, 51, looks set to replace Ange Postecoglou, who was sacked just 16 days after leading Spurs to Europa League glory — the club’s first major trophy in 17 years. Despite the triumph, Tottenham finished 17th in the Premier League, barely avoiding relegation.
Newly appointed CEO Vinai Venkatesham is understood to be playing a key role in the recruitment process alongside chairman Daniel Levy.
£10m Deal in the Works
Frank has been at Brentford since 2016 and took over as head coach in 2018. Under his leadership, the Bees earned promotion via the Championship play-offs in 2021 and have since solidified their Premier League status on a modest budget.
Brentford are entitled to £10m in compensation, with the figure potentially rising depending on how many of his backroom staff join him in north London.

The Numbers: 2024/25 Season Recap
- Brentford: Finished 10th, continuing their steady top-flight form.
- Tottenham: Ended 17th, winning just 11 of 38 league games despite lifting the Europa League trophy.
🧢 Son’s Future Uncertain
Club captain Son Heung-min addressed his future amid the managerial shake-up:
“I still have one more year left on the contract… I think we should all wait and see what happens,”
— Son to Yonhap News Agency
❓ Van de Ven Questions Postecoglou’s Exit

Spurs defender Micky van de Ven, a Postecoglou signing, admitted confusion over the Aussie’s dismissal:
“He brought success to Spurs for the first time in years… That shows he has a winning mentality. So of course it’s strange that he was fired.”
If the deal is finalized, Frank would become the latest manager tasked with restoring Spurs’ Premier League credibility — and handling some major squad decisions, starting with Son.
